I’ve been blessed to overcome all 5 of these areas. Yes, I still struggle occasionally in these areas but in all reality living beyond these areas is now my reality! Let’s get to it!
#1: They Complain
It’s an attention getter. When I used to complain about my weight or how tired I was it was easy to get attention, most would jump on the bandwagon of complaining. In all reality I was looking for someone to agree with me, and mercy that wasn’t a problem! 80 percent of the church, work environment, organizations, or an office complains. What do you want to hear when someone opens their mouth, complaints or gratitude? Complaints are powerless however, gratitude is powerful.
Philippians 2:14 Do all things without grumbling or disputing.
Challenge: For 30-days – Focus on NOT complaining.
Last week my husband and I decided to take on this challenge.
We are 7 days in and I must say God is revealing himself!
Workshop Tip #1: Complaining has everything to do with your health. If you complain you remain at a weight that you dislike. What you focus on you GET! See yourself as powerful, strong and confident making wonderful healthy decisions. God sees this for you, it’s time to believe it’s for YOU!
#2: They Blame Others
They blame the 3rd grade teacher, their spouse, their circumstances. Yikes, it’s time to stop the madness. I’ve been there and I know the blame game well. I was almost an expert. Blaming is like holding a hot coal in your hands and tossing it back and forth, back and forth, and passing blame. Is it possible it’s time to take responsibility and drop the coal? Recently I heard a 24-year-old living with her parents say, “I didn’t get to eat until 10 p.m. Mom didn’t bring fast food home until late.” This may sound like a no brainer. The 24-year-old is passing blame and feeling stuck in every area of life. Where do you pass blame? Galatians 6:5 For each one should carry their own load.
Workshop Tip #2: Blame is an easy way to NOT look in the mirror at oneself. There is such power in getting right with the person in the mirror. Where are you passing blame when it comes to your health? I stopped blaming my circumstances a long time ago. Take a step today and stop playing the blame game!
#3: They Waste Money
The lunch or dinner you were not in the mood to make adds up! When you say, “I’m too busy,” I will say to that individual, “you’re too busy not to.” This is an area that only 8 to 10% will take heed to. This goes back to the first 2 tips complaining and blaming. The 80% goes through the drive thru why? The complaint is I’m too busy, I’m tired, and my kids have to get somewhere. Oh, how I relate and once lived this way. When I decided to take control of my blaming and complaining I stopped being the 80%. I learned that I want to be the 8 to 10 % that is healthy and alive.
Workshop Tip #3: I challenge you to go back and look at your debit card and see how much money you have spent on the drive thru. Get excited about saving money and actually having time to sit with the family at your kitchen table rather than in a drive thru.
#4: They Gossip
I was raised by a mother that didn’t gossip. I always respected her for that and I truly tried to follow suit. This might surprise you. I’m going to look at gossip at a different angle. I’d pride myself on not gossiping, while that in all reality wasn’t true. Let me explain. I may have not gossiped about another BUT I GOSSIPED ABOUT ME! I would openly share I was fat, unhealthy, unfit, jealous, upset, and the list goes on. But the things that come out of a person’s mouth come from the heart, and these defile them. Matthew 15:18
I was gossiping about the Daughter of the King that was created to speak with authority on hope, health, joy and provision but instead I spoke words of defeat, so the outcome was worry. I ran to junk food (my old favorite Little Debbie) to cover up my pain. The gossip and sharing with others about how fat I was, was a slap in God’s face!! I was saying, “I’m unworthy, I’m undisciplined, I’m not good enough.” That isn’t God’s Word. I believed the opposite of the Word.
Workshop Tip #4: I challenge you if you’re struggling with an unhealthy body, what is coming out of your mouth? It’s time to strip the labels that no longer serve you. It’s time to believe something that is more powerful, thought provoking, and doesn’t scar your soul! Get excited about believing you are worthy of a healthy weight, you are worthy of food that will make you feel light on your feet and a body that is active and alive.
#5 They Don’t Prepare For the Week:
Complain, blame, and wasting money, and gossip. Why would anyone want to prepare? They don’t!
Most will say, “I don’t have time to prepare.” And I say, “Your worth more than a drive thru, boxed food or a food that is creates obesity.” When an individual learns to rise above their pain of complaining, blame, wasting money, and gossiping I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that life and health is drastically going to change for that individual in a way that will bring the Fruit of the Spirit into their life and health: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, faithfulness and self-control Galatians 5:22. The 5 Unhealthy Things People Do are opposite of the Fruit of the Spirit. As an individual peels off labels of unworthiness it is replaced with what truly brings life!
John 10:10 The thief comes only to steal and to kill and to destroy; I have come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. I allowed the thief to steal from me. He steals from the complaining, blaming, money wasting, gossipy individual. Why? THE thief is broke!! The thief had me hook line and sinker at one time and I was a believer. The thief had his eye on me because I wasn’t sober and alert in mind. 1 Peter 5:8 Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. I was downcast so he preyed on me I was like a scared kitten in a corner! Guess who stopped complaining, blaming, wasting money, gossiping and not preparing? Me! Are you ready to make a few changes?
Workshop Tip #5: Take time to look at your health Ask yourself a few questions. If I made a few changes how could my health be different in 1 month? Am I living a life that is creating health? Yes, I want to change and I’m going to ________________ (you fill in the blank).
